Here to Help

Hello
Welcome! My name is Edmund Szutu (pronounced zoo-too) and I hope to help both youth and adults regain control of their lives.

I was born in East Vancouver to immigrant parents. I completed my Masters of Education in Counselling Psychology from Simon Fraser University (SFU) in 2019. For over 15 years, I have been a school counsellor, victim services worker, counselling intern at a free non-profit, classroom teacher, and crisis suicide line volunteer.

My Approach
I believe in building an honest and comfortable relationship first. Once I better understand you and your goals, we can move into helping you find meaning or direction.

There is no one-size-fits-all path in life, so will take a little bit of exploration to find satisfaction and purpose. You’ll be surprised by the unique wisdom you already have; we can build on it so you can re-discover your strengths and grow them into the life you want to live

My key areas of focus are:
-
Anxiety and Depression
-
Identity & Culture
-
Unresolved family relationships
-
Self-Acceptance
-
Trauma and PTSD
-
Career Counselling
I use careful non-judgemental listening to understand how our past experiences shape who we are now. With this information, we look at how to make room for a better future. We all learned how to survive in life, and at some point, those survival strategies became defensive mechanisms that are both helpful and not as helpful at other times.

I understand going to counselling/therapy might already feel like a big step, so thank you for considering me in this journey.
